Bath Sponge! SPonge! Sponge!
The Bath Sponge is a very strange animal. It is the simplest form of a multicellular organism. It doesn't have a nervous system, any internal organs, or any muscles. It only is able to digest and get rid of waste, also it is able to breathe nothing else. They are usually found in the Mediterranean Sea and thrive in the warm waters. The Bath Sponge is dark purple or grey when alive and yellow or brown when the sponge is dead. It ranges in size but is between 35cm- 50cm in diameter. Some can be much bigger!
With the help of a flagella, the Bath Sponge pulls water in through it's pores called ostia. The water passes through numerous chambers, then the water is pushed toward the surface. The food molecules and oxygen are taken from the water and they are used so the sponge can live and prosper. The water then leaves through the osculum which lets out waste products.
