The flatworm moves as a result of two layers of muscles in its body wall and by thousand of cilia. The tapeworm's muscular system is composed of layers and layers of circular, horizontal, and diagonal muscles very close to the epidermis. It also consists of a mesenchymal musculature containing dorsoventral, transverse, and longitudinal fibers that pass through the mesenchyme. Basically, platyhelminths are capable of extensive body contraction and elongation.
