Venus' flower basket
A deep sea animal, they are also known as glass sponges because their bodies are completely made of silica. They are usually found between 20-3,000 feet where the water is very cold and is high in silica They are found near the coast of Japan and the Philippines. In Japan they say the glass sponge is good luck. To live they filter feed, sponges are filter feeders. They create a current to draw water in through tissue and filter out small food particles. They do not have any muscles, nervous system or circulatory system.
